what is rooting?Advantages & disadwantages

What is rooting?

Rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, Tablet and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's sub-system.

As Android derives from the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device gives similar access administrative permissions as on Linux or any other Unix-like operating system such as FreeBSD or OS X.

Android is a Opensource Software but the one shipped with your Smart Phone is not in its purest form, Its a custom flavor. Every manufacturer has their own User Interface like HTC has HTC Sense and Samsung has TouchWiz. They also ship it with default Apps which cannot be removed or disabled without root permissions. These unwanted default Apps are called “Bloatwares”.

Install Custom ROM’s : If you are not satisfied with default Stock Android, then by rooting you can install Custom ROM’s. These roms come with many flavors and they carry much more features than what comes preloaded on the device. They enhance your phone’s looks and provide increase in performance and even battery life. Custom ROM’s can also make your Phone faster and lightweight.

What are custom ROMs

Custom versions of Android, known as custom ROMs, allow additional levels of control on a rooted device. As Android is open source, anyone with the proper skills can create their own customized version. These versions are often more feature-rich, more efficient, and better looking that standard OEM versions, which can be restrictive.

Few popular custom ROM’s are

CyanogenMod
Paranoid Android
AOKP
Liquid Smooth
Jelly BAM

SlimBean

ADVANTAGES-

Advantages of rooting include the possibility for complete control over the look and feel of the device. Immediately respectable advantages of rooted devices include the following:

1. Full themeing capabilities, meaning that everything can be changed and themed from the color of the battery indicator, to the look of the dialer or contact list, to the video that plays while the device boots up.

2.Full control of the CPU and kernel, which should only be adjusted by knowledgeable users.

3.Full application control including the ability to backup, restore, or batch edit applications, or to remove bloatware that comes pre-loaded on many phones.

4.These features become available with the use of root applications such as Rom Toolbox or Titanium Backup which are among the most popular root applications.

5.Processes can be automated on the device through the use of applications such as Tasker. Tasker allows the user to set triggers based on time, date, manual switches like widgets or buttons, GPS coordinates, voice commands, cell tower connectivity, plugins, applications, and many more.
These triggers can be used to automate everything from volume and connectivity, to power settings on a device and can even be used to automatically interact with other smart devices, including a TV set, console, or smart home lighting.

Disadvantages of Rooting

1. Rooting may void your phone warranty: After rooting if you get any hardware or software problem you can not claim your warranty. Some manufacturers won’t give support if they find you rooted the device.

2.Bricking your phone: To brick your phone is to break it during flashing or other acts. There is always a small risk with flashing, and if your phone becomes unable to function it can mess up the phone’s software so badly that it won’t work any more and your phone will be as useless as a brick.

3.Security Concerns: Rooted android devices are at high risk of getting infected with malware and other security threats. If you unknowingly gave root permission to malware then your entire private details are at risk and it may also harm your phone.

Samsung mobiles Dates to receive Lollipop Updates

Samsung is usually hit or miss with software updates. It usually manages to keep its newest devices pretty current, but the rate at which older devices are updates is dismal.

So far, Samsung has kept mum on the issue, with no official word on dates or which devices will actually see the update.

That said, it’s a safe bet the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5 (and its several variants), the Galaxy S4, and most devices under 18-months-old will all receive the update. When the might see it is another matter entirely. Again, rumors claim the S5 will see its update before the end of the year. That particular rumor comes from SamMobile, which has a very solid track record for accurate Samsung rumors and news. lets have a look on there video.

Others predict the Note 4 could also be upgraded in the same timeframe, but that still isn’t taking into consideration the update approval process by the controlling wireless providers stateside.

The Android Soul created a time table on expected arrival dates for the Android 5.0 updates for various Samsung devices, based on its existing history with updates. It expects the Note 4 to be updated in January or February, February or March for Sprint, and March or April for the the AT&T and T-Mobile variants. It should come as no surprise that the Verizon version of the Galaxy Note 4 comes in last with an expected arrival date of May or June. The Galaxy S5 and Note Edge update predictions are virtually identical, while last year’s models of the same devices are expected to lag about three months behind.
Here we have a list from International Business Time showing  expected dates when Samsung mobiles are getting lollipop.

What's New in LOLLIPOP

As we all know that Lollipop is the name of latest android version i.e, android 5.0. And all of us are excited to have it just like a little child want to have a lollipop as much as we are to have the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update installed on to our devices.

And it is not too far from us but  don't you want to know  what's new in it , don't you want to know what a kitkat device cant do but a lollipop can. So let us have a look on the latest features of this ammazing operating system .

1. Guest User
The most surprising feature of this version of android is that it have a multiple user access possible.yes, its true u can add a guest account just like windows pc in your phone for the others who use your phone but critics are saying that this is not so secure and improvements have to be done as it is reported in past by some developers that in lollipop a guest have access to things to which a guest should not have to . But here i want to clear that those was reported in the developer preview the same may be it is cured.

2. Inbuilt Flashlight
We all need flash light at times. And it is a important feature of your phone that's why every high end devise has a flash light. But why we have to scroll the menue for it some times we think why Google is not putting a flash-lite on/off button in the notification panel of the phone like IOS have. So finally Google listened to us and the lollipop have a button to on/off flash light in the menu.

3.Notification Panel
The notification panel of Lollipop has a feature to flash notifications on your screen even when your phone is in locked condition. but it may me a good feature for some of us and it may be a bug for others. Yes it makes your notification not private as any one can see them even in locked condition.

4. Battery
battery in lollipop is given a priority two new and mush need features related to bettry are added in the lollipop. In  lollipop it will always be known to the user that how much time he has and after that the battery will runs out even there is good graphical presentation for it. Another new feature related to battery is now it is visible on the lock screen How much time it will take to fully charge the battery. User in Lollipop will be able to vies=w the estimated time of charging.

5. Easter egg FlappyBird
flappy bird is a very famous and highly played game on android devices. Lollipop is offering a modified vrersion the the game. instead, here we have a easter egg to unlock.Users can go to Settings – About phone and click several times and you will get the android robot in place of the bird.

A lot more features may be there those are different form Kitkat in Lollipop. i will post  others i  will find  them till then keep reading and plz comment or mail or post on our Facebook page if you have any thing to share with us or if you want us to write about. And if you like us plz help us in increasing readers.
